Saint Jerome in his Study - Model

I have begun modelling a replica of the painting 'Saint Jerome in his Study' by Antonello da Messina. This is just the doorway, I've built most of it by just extruding and Chamfering sections. Once you get the basics down its quite simple, just a puzzle. The awkward bit was modelling the inner doorway detail towads the top. I havent taken a good enough screen image for it to be really visible though. Anyway, this project I will be slowly getting on with along with all the other ones, hopefully will be another small thing to add to the portfolio.

The Tutorials are up and working

YAY!! I can progress again, so with Andy's tutorials I've not added eye sockets and a mouth. Not only this but I have smoothed Hagatha out, and she looks awesome, I was a little worried about smoothing her as naughtily i hadnt tested it throughout, but it works beautifully. For my 1st ever 3d character model, I love her. She looks like a witch, she has all the witch features, and I've barely had to tweak my original design, apart from giving her a neck and taking away the hair. Today is much better, I'm so glad to have the tutorials again, it does make the difference. Also just spoke to Andy, i'm now going to seperate the Hat from her head, so it almost becomes a seperate character, I have made life difficult for myself with her chin so much on her chest so I'm also going to lift head more, so this will probably be the last time you see her in a nice position, till i begin anaimtion.

The Witch and the Broom

So I've now added her hat to her head, and modelled the broomstick, I'm hoping that in both these models to increase the level of depth with Mudbox. Just need to figure out how to do it. Unfortunately I can not progress further with these two models at the minute because the basic tutorials on how to rig etc. have been deleted accidently on the University website, infact my entire years tutorials and briefs have all gone. Hopefully will be uplaoded soon, I really want to see my podgy witch move. The brrom I've decided wont walk in my animation but I may make a seperate one just for my own little personal challenge.

Hat and Body of the Witch

She is coming together quite quickly now that I've almost sorted the face, just got to connect the hat to her head. I will most definitely be importing her into Mudbox, just to give her the extra finer details and smoothing out a bit more. This is the very first character model I have ever done. I hope the animation goes just as well

Quick Model update

She has legs and apron that ties at the back, now onto the complex bit I think, the head. Wish me luck

Perfect

Found this online whilst thinking about composition and the style of my piece. It has all the elements that I wanted to include in my still life, although this one is very crisp and clean and I want my to feel more realistic, then a set up. This is still a good reference, and something i will keep referring back too, especially the strawberry jam. I will change the chopping board though, add a few crumbs, a tile bakground and granit surface. Perfect, just texturing the loaf now, here is the basic model I have done in 3ds max:

Getting there bit by bit, just need to find the right texture for it, might have to wait and make a loaf myself once I get back to the uk and take pictures of it. Will keep searching.

Decided to just stick to modelling for the time being and collect my materials all at once, the search was fruitless online so going to compile my own. It will be done, hopefully i'll figure out the uwv unwrapping thing too.
i think i need to re-do the knife still 50/50 on its actual basic model, but so far so good

After Effects for the Chess player

Above: Good evening. Middle: ...White Please. Below: Black

So here is a the next section, the switching on of the Unbeatable computer, and the computer deciding which side to be. I did one for each as at the time I decided to that the evil computer will prefer black, it will also allow the robot hands to start first... This is where the frustrations begin!
I did it in After effects, which I'm very glad I've started using more as i can now use it as practice for my final olympics piece, which is after this project. I like the glow of the letters, and it again helps set the scene. Sorry not uploaded my sketches yet, completely forgot.

Hmmm... Chess Pieces beginning

This is just a progress render of my pieces, they still have a lot of tweaking left to do. Basic shapes are there but I am not happy with them yet, maybe material will help and more detail. Although they are supposed to be just Metal representations of the chess pieces rather than the standard ones. I'm also building them from scratch as I feel everyone is probably just copying a online tutorial, and I'd like my animation to stand out a little more. Anyway also to add... the chess computer has now been built it just needs detail like buttons, the black rectangle is when the words such as "Check In 10" will appear.
